Rue de Rivoli 65
Leading the past into the 21st Century
FRANCE - Paris
Revitalizing a block of buildings located in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, dating from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries by propelling them into the 21st century, without distorting the exceptional quality of the buildings and taking into account the protected features registered on the national list of Historic Monuments, was the successful mission of AIM Hanemian Architects at the request of the owner Redevco.
Based on the in-depth studies of the REA historians Pascal Simonetti et Valérie-Noëlle Jouffre and the SCYNA4 structural engineers, the solution consisted of establishing a commercial area in the basement, ground floor and first floor, and reconfiguring the apartment levels. This allowed the owner to expand his commercial space from 1200 sqm to 2600 sqm and benefit from building 25 new modern apartments.
To do this, some historical vaults on the lower basement floor were demolished in order to obtain an upper basement with a suitable height for the existing commercial activities. The choice to conceal the delivery area behind a pivoting glass screen satisfied both the Paris Roads Department and the Bâtiments de France Services.
The apartments are decorated in a luxurious and contemporary style, doing justice aesthetically to the old building through the choice of colors and materials. Access to the apartments is gained via entrance halls totally separated from the commercial activities.
The site has successfully met the BREEAM standard.
