Géant Casino – Shopping center extension
Renewed busyness through business
FRANCE - Anglet
The Géant Casino shopping centre on the outskirts of the town of Anglet, once a bustling dynamic place, needed a complete renovation as well as an extension with capacity for new activities.
It was originally planned to remove part of the (concrete floor) first level of the carpark in order to create the desired new space. AIM Hanemian Architects decided to retain this carpark floor and instead locate new activities underneath. The entrance to the centre was re-designed with bold new signing (on a support pillar of the new roofing structure).
Taking its lead from the Casino charter, AIM Hanemian Architects transposed the theme of “Esprit Voisin” – “Neighbouring Spirit” – to the design of the Mall itself and the shop frontages to create a more welcoming atmosphere. Wood and glass canopies, coloured banners and flags (kakemonos), benches, flower beds, bird nesting boxes all contributed to this new desired effect.
