National Tourism Office of Malaysia

Sea and sand

FRANCE - Paris

In designing these premises for the National Tourist Office of Malaysia, the Agency chose to harmonize with the emblematic colour range of the country: the bright blue of the sky and warm colours overall.

Blue is prominent right from the start on the façade, the door and the first floor balcony. The transparency of the façade means that light floods into all the rooms.

From the open door, a sand-coloured wave edged with sea blue is reflected to infinity in a mirror. The reception desk is a central feature of this flowing design. A spiral staircase fits neatly into the curve and leads up to the first floor where small glazed units create a kind of curved transparent interior wall behind which a conference room is sited. Sliding doors with a wooden trellis design can be used to close off this space if required.

The total effect of transparency and light, the blueness of the sky at the approach of nightfall, the warmth of sand and wood is an invitation to take a vacation in Malaysia, as created by Olivia de Pazzis Hanemian and AIM Hanemian Architects design team.
