2006 – MIPIM Architecture
“MPML (Memory and Peace Museum and Library)”, MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards 2006
For Saudi Arabia/United Arab Emirates
This “Museum and Library” is intended for Riyadh or Dubai as part of a desire to establish either city as the center of the Muslim world. The unusual structure is made up of a series of concrete rings fixed at 30° to each other. Their shape is symbolic of eternity and the cosmos – and is part of traditional Islamic pattern making. The plan is based on seven rows of interlinked rings with some spaces open, the rest closed. A second level contains library, exhibition and cafeteria spaces with the ground level devoted to the main library and exhibition spaces.
